Adecco Engineering and Technical, a division of the world leader in the recruitment of engineering and information technologies professionals, has an immediate opening for a Chemical Engineering Process/Project Engineer in the Memphis, TN area.  Position Summary:  This position will identify, develop, manage, and execute chemical engineering projects (capital and expense) (between $10,000 and $100,000) that optimize operating efficiencies, reduce costs and improve service levels of manufacturing and warehousing operations; will identify and implement improvements to existing consumer packaging processes, equipment, and materials.  In addition to project work, may provide day-to-day support to engineering, maintenance, and operations functions.  Work is performed under the general direction of the Director, Operations Excellence with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment in the performance of work activities; may manage the work of other engineering employees, cross-functional teams, outside engineers and outside contractors.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities: §         Identifies, develops, and manages chemical engineering and related capital and expense projects to optimize blending, filling, small consumer goods packaging, labeling and other manufacturing processes; considers impact of equipment layout, workflow, production methods, workforce utilization, scheduling, capacity planning, etc. §         Manages small projects from scope definition to turnover to operations, including equipment design, integration, installation, qualification, standard operating procedures, preventative maintenance procedures, and start-up; may provide support and project management, from scope to completion, resulting from new products or changes in raw materials, new processes, and/or new technologies. §         Recommends alternative solutions for components and other packaging materials; recognizes how changes will affect customers, manufacturing, purchasing, and other functions. §         Interfaces with Operations, R&D, QA, Safety, and other departments to ensure that all impacts of equipment/process chemistry/component changes are understood, documented, and implemented; will be the liaison for the Operations team while working closely on new products, raw materials and/or changes made to various chemistries. §         Provides technical assistance to environmental functions on emissions and related calculations; provides chemical expertise as needed.     §         Develops plans, including scope definition, schedules, resource requirements, and budgets, for developing solutions to manufacturing, engineering, product quality and process chemical improvement opportunities; provides same support in the development of new product and new business opportunities; provides status reports to all internal customers.   §         Develops criteria for vendor and equipment selection; requests quotes, negotiates prices, warranties, and other terms. §         Stays abreast of new technologies and their application to client's business; plans and implements new technologies as appropriate.  §         Performs all work in accordance with client’s safety and quality guidelines and procedures; demonstrates clear understanding of these safety and quality objectives. §         Provides training assistance and prepares training material as part of project or other improvement efforts.  §         Mentors less experienced engineers and others in the organization as appropriate. §         Performs special projects and other work as assigned by Director Operations Excellence.  Qualifications/Experience: Bachelor&rs quo;s degree in Chemical Engineering and seven to ten years chemical engineering experience that must include experience with consumer packaging line equipment.       Must have the ability to design and manage chemical engineering projects and understand how to lay out a full chemical process project; must possess excellent knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes; must have some knowledge of the mechanical design of blending, high speed liquid filling, packaging, and labeling equipment and operations; must have some knowledge of regulations and compliance requirements of federal, Tennessee state and local government agencies; excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate technical matters to a full range of audiences; proficiency in computer applications including CAD, spreadsheet, word processing, data base and project management software; ability to meet cost and project deadlines; excellent project management skills; excellent problem solving skills; excellent planning and organization skills; ability to work independently, work on multiple projects and set priorities based on general and strategic direction; ability to work with multi-functional teams as a leader and participant;
