We uphold the highest standards of integrity and quality by developing a diverse and talented team To write news and feature stories using informative, journalistic language useful to readers. Responsible for production of assigned market’s publication of Community Impact Newspaper. Responsibilities: - Commit to the highest level of accuracy
- Build relationships with community contacts to maintain a steady flow of news
- Bring story ideas to all internal editorial planning meetings
- Maintain awareness of current and future business development
- Maintain accurate source and contact records that are easily accessible by team members
- Ensure accurate reporting by interviewing sources from a variety of perspectives
- Attend city council meetings, chamber functions, other news or city events
- Research and write lead stories as assigned
- Interview and write a minimum of two feature stories as assigned
- Design graphics and sidebars for each story
- Implement production for one paper including designing of front page, ensuring style guidelines consistently maintained, completing corrections after each editing
- Assist with web content as needed
- Assist editorial team with copy-editing, fact checking, design or writing as needed
- Represent Community Impact Newspaper in a positive and professional manner at networking events or other external functions
- Attend all internal meetings and events on time
- Maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and management team
- Learn and adhere to Community Impact’s editorial stylebook
- Understand and adhere to the policies and procedures of Community Impact Newspaper
Skills: - Ability to write news and features, design pages, develop useful sidebar graphics
- Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Word
- Familiarity with AP style
- Knowledge of Web design and development a plus
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Ability to perform job responsibilities in a timely manner with minimal supervision
- Ability to multi-task and deal effectively with time pressures
- Flexibility in performing tasks outside of basic responsibilities
Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
- Experience in interviewing, writing and page design
- At least two years prior experience with other print publication(s) a plus
